NICOLE + KYLE | OKLAHOMA CITY WEDDING

I’m not sure I can describe this wedding as adequately cool as it was.  Nicole and Kyle’s day was unique, entertaining and fun in so many ways.  There were many little pieces of them woven throughout the design, one being the log centerpieces which matched their style to a T.  They joined an intricate cross together with bolts instead of a unity candle.  There were games involving the wedding party and guests throughout the reception.  A special friend surprised them by showing up from Brazil.  And their love permeated through the air as they were united as one amongst their closest friends and family.  It was truly special and Bryan and I were honored to be a part of it.  Here are some of our favorite photos…

Nicole, a natural beauty anyway, getting prettified at the Mac counter.

Nicole and Kyle opted for a First Sight.  I cannot say enough great things about this topic.  I definitely think in this case it helped calm Nicole’s nerves, and of course it always makes for great photos!

These are the real moments I strive to capture.  Tears and smiles.

I loved Kyle’s gift to Nicole – a family Bible.

I am primarily a natural light photographer.  When we can head outdoors for your portraits, I am an extremely happy camper.:)

So fierce, I love it!

One of the sweetest moments, and definitely a favorite of mine!

Ahhh, I just love the simplicity of this ring shot.  Another favorite!

All the amazing florals were created by Abi Ruth.

Bryan took these next two shots, and yes I’m jealous!:)

I adore the idea of bolting the cross together instead of a unity candle.

A radiant couple with beautiful smiles!

PASSING + PEACE

I am going to keep it real here.  I’ve wanted to share this for a while, but I guess I wasn’t ready till now.  So here goes…

Thursday July 22nd my Papa passed from a battle with cancer.  He was diagnosed roughly a year before, but the months leading up we were informed that the treatments were not working and the results were looking grim.  You see, I knew he was sick, but in my mind I don’t think I had really accepted it.  It wasn’t until his turn for the worse that I really came to grips with the whole situation.  And still when I think back on that time I know that in my own head I somewhat tried to ignore the reality.  So when it came to those last few weeks of knowing that death was unavoidable I fell apart inside.  I knew he would be saved from his pain and suffering, but the whole sickness was such a roller coaster, I wasn’t quite ready yet.  It was something I didn’t talk about too much, which some might think is terrible, but I just wasn’t there yet.  I guess we all have our own ways of dealing with life’s trials, and in this situation I really don’t think I handled it too well.  I know now it’s something I’ve learned about myself and I press on to grow.

So, I remember that Thursday when I got the call from my Dad.  We were unloading the kids from the car to head into Mazzio’s for a quick lunch.  I saw his number pop up on my phone and my heart sank.  I just knew this was it.  After that conversation, I walked inside, as my family had left me behind not realizing and ordered our food.  I sat at our table in the corner and seriously cried the whole time.  I don’t even know why I chose to stay there and honestly am a little embarrassed thinking of how I must have looked bawling in the corner of Mazzio’s trying to consume even a few bites of pizza.  It was ridiculous really.  Sometimes I think I’m so tough and I don’t know why I don’t just give it up.  My Mom called me that night to discuss the funeral plans.  Because my Papa was somewhat expected to pass soon the funeral arrangements were already taking place.  I knew in my gut I wasn’t going to be able to attend.  They scheduled to hold the service the following Saturday, July 24th, which was my only date in July to photograph a wedding.  This was one of the most difficult experiences for me.  My Papa was gone.  And I wasn’t going to be able to be there to honor him.  To be with my family, hold their hands, share tears and memories and love.  I almost couldn’t believe it had happened like this, not in a selfish way, it was just a lot to take in.  And I remember my Mom specifically said to me, “You know Papa would want you out there doing what you love and supporting your family.”  And I did know this, but still, to not be there was hard.  You see my Papa was one of the most hard working men I knew.  Seriously morning till night.  He was a passionate and caring and understanding man.  He knew how very much I loved him and that I didn’t have to prove that by being at his funeral.  I think sometimes we, as humans, get caught up in the show of things, and I just had to let go.  The Monday before I got to spend the day with him.  I sat by his side and rubbed his fragile arms gently as he slept.  We had short conversation when he felt up to it, but really we had a peaceful time just being together.  And that’s really what it’s all about.  I did get to attend the family visit and dinner Friday night, and was thankful for the those moments shared with family.  But more so, I was able to be with my Papa during his last days of life.  I got to hold his hand, and hear his voice, and be in his presence, and I will forever be grateful for those last moments with him.

So I shot the wedding Saturday and thankfully it was for a dear friend of mine.  The day was fabulous and I will share photos from it in a few days, but here’s a sneak peek until then.

Randomness:  Live on the Plaza is tonight and Norman is hosting it’s County Fair.  There is plenty to get out and about and do this weekend, and I hope you all have an awesome one!  ♥ Kelly

SUMMER FUN | PORTRAIT SESSIONS

Between all of the summer’s wedding craziness I was able to shoot a few portrait sessions.  I specifically love all of the bright colors throughout these shoots, and what a bonus that I get to photograph such cuties.

Parents, this is a great post to check out some cute outfit ideas.  I prefer you not to wear all white for your session.  Bright colors, texture and patterns are great.  Just make sure your outfits are comfortable, and don’t forget to have fun with it!

First I’d like to introduce little miss Hadley, who just turned the big 1.  Mom was worried about her session because she had some serious teething issues, but I think she did great!  Isn’t she just precious…

And here is Mr. Rhett.  You can’t deny his cuteness, really!  Someday his Mom is going to show these off to his girlfriend and he’s going to hate it.  But I love that I was able to capture his 6 month photos.

He likes the taste of his Mommy’s hair, isn’t that too funny!

I forgot to mention these three little ones are all friends too.  I just love it.  And the last of the little trio is Landry.  Oh sweet Landry.  She wanted to hold me throughout her whole session, and I just couldn’t get enough of it.  She just turned 1 as well and is quite the little ham.

And last, but not least here is my sister in law down in Kingsville.  When we traveled down south to visit family and go to the beach this summer we were able to stay with Steph for a few days.  I am so glad we were finally able to photograph their beautiful family of 5, as well as spend some much needed time together.  Aren’t they all just so darn pretty!?

She wanted head shots of all the kids to hang in a row, and I must admit I have some good lookin’ nieces & nephews!

Hope you have enjoyed some of my favorite summer sessions.  I only have a few spots left for Holiday mini sessions so contact me soon to reserve one of those.  I really cannot wait to catch up with old clients/friends and meet some new ones!  Happy Hump Day!

FABULOUS FINDS

Happy Friday Everyone!  I hope you’ve had an excellent week.  I have to say this one, although not perfect by any means, was much better than the previous.  If I were to be honest, I might just say that last week was the week from hell.  I mean, really, if anything could have gone wrong… it certainly did.  Everything from computer issues to our AC quitting – 2 days in a row might I add.  It was all overwhelming, frustrating and down right depressing.  But, on to better days.  I’ve put my faith and trust in God and remind myself of one of my favorite quotes, “this too shall pass”.  I actually inherited that saying from my Mom.  She always quoted that during trying times, and thankfully it stuck and has helped me through.

And on that note, let’s get started with some Fabulous Finds.

In honor of my mother’s little quote, I might just need to purchase these cuties

Wouldn’t it be so sweet to send these to a friend or family member going through a trying time.  You can find them at the ishootnouns shop on etsy.  And while you’re there don’t forget to check out her custom silhouettes and array of other adorable prints.

While we’re on the subject of etsy… and all things typography (because I sure do love me some of that) I’ve just got to get  these as well from MonkiVintage!!!!  They would look fab on my bookshelf.  Or desk at that!

If you read my blog regularly or just know me, you’ll recognize I use exclamation points way! too! much!  I just can’t help it… I get excited.  What can a girl do!?

As far as home decor, I’m just now… at the ripe age of 25 really finding my style.  There are so many ideas and projects I have in mind for my home.  Argh, if only the benjamins fell from the many trees in my backyard.  A site that has really tickled my fancy and inspired me in so many ways is Young House Love.

John + Sherry are so so talented.  They are “two young people, falling in love, with their first house” as their site quotes.  They not only share amazing diy projects, tips and tricks, but J+S also give great financial advice, going greener suggestions plus they have one of the cutest little families I’ve ever seen.  You’ve got to head on over there and check things out.  But only if you have some time to spend browsing around, because I promise you’ll be there forever catching up.  It’s my new favorite on the blog list!  Fo sho!

A few more things I’ve been ga ga over….  My perfectly red Finger Paints Curator’s Crimson nail polish, my favorite skinny jeans rolled up for summer, good ‘ole iced cold semi-sweet tea (it makes this Oklahoma heat a little more bearable) and last but certainly not least Goop.com, created by Gwyneth Paltrow.

Well, that wraps up my very first edition of “Fabulous Finds”.  I plan to make this a regular share and will post as often as I can with uber cool items/blogs/sites/randomness. :)

And while we’re at it, what are some of your favorite things currently?  Do share.  We could all use a little inspiration, advice and product love…

Have a great weekend!  ♥ Kelly

NICOLE | OKC BRIDAL PHOTOS

Nicole and I go way back.  We cheered together and became great friends back in our AHS days.  She is a beautiful woman, inside and out, and an even more stunning bride.  And she was up for anything for her session.  Add that together, with some amazing light and whala – you have a perfect bridal shoot!  Perhaps, a session worth featuring on the website, which is exactly what I did.  So you can check out my two totally favorite images below, but click HERE to look at her featured gallery.

By the way, she is not actually standing on the ledge of the parking garage.  There is a landing right behind her.  Nicole volunteered to stand up there and I gladly obliged.

Nicole, thank you for being an amazing bride, but even more so a great friend!  Love you girl!
