TRUE COST OF A WEDDING | WEDDING WEDNESDAY

I’m apparently way behind on finding this, considering it was shared around the time of the royal wedding.  I just thought it was so interesting to break down the current average wedding.  I have to say, I am surprised about several of the budget categories, but I am a partial wedding vendor.;)

Interesting information right there… and kind of pretty too.  Thanks to The Knot Inc, Smart Money and Money CNN for putting this together.

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

~abi~ - so cool, kelly beane!

EIGHT YEARS | OUR ANNIVERSARY!

We sat down at the table with our plates of chicken, salad, broccoli casserole, and potatoes.  The food was quite comforting, but everything else around was foreign to us.  We were a bit uncomfortable honestly, but the opportunity to meet others and create new friendships was exciting.  You see, this past weekend we photographed a wedding in the wonderful Dallas, Texas.  Because we were not able to meet the couple prior to the ceremony, Ashlee and Greg graciously invited us to the rehearsal dinner to meet before the wedding day and spend some time getting to know their family and friends.  The mother of the groom sat at the table with us and we started conversation.  As she asked questions about our history, it was fun to recount our life together and all that we’ve experienced in our eight years of marriage.  We have so much to be thankful for, and have grown tremendously.  And most importantly, we’ve traveled this journey… together.  With my very.best.friend!

That is what you are to me, Bryan!  I cannot imagine my days without you.  The most exciting, happiest times of my life would not be so joyous without you celebrating along with me.  The difficult, heartbreaking days would be unbearable without your arms around me.  And even the mundane every day events would be plain boring without you by my side.  This journey has been interesting, fun, trying, rewarding and such a huge blessing!  And I am excited about what life will present us next.  Because I know no matter where this journey takes us, I get to experience it with you.  And with that thought, I know we’re always going to be okay.

Here are a few recent photos of Bryan and I, taken during our family session…

And our family… oh my goodness, how did we possibly create such beautiful children!?

Abi Ruth, thank you so much for these photos.  Especially the ones of Bryan and I, we don’t have enough pictures together because we’re usually behind the cameras.:)

And Mr. Beane, thank you for believing in me always.  You make me a better woman, and I am so grateful to have you in my life.  The amazing leader, father and husband you are to our family never goes unnoticed.  I love you!

Your’s Always – Kelly

It was so wonderful getting to know you both this past weekend at Ashlee’s and Greg’s wedding. I hope that some time in the future we have more time to get to know you even better. Rick and I fell in love with you both. You were professional, fun and so comfortable to be around. You have a beautiful family and we are so proud of you! “To God Be the Glory….. really speaks to me when I think of you and our newlyweds”

AMANDA + RYAN | OKC ENGAGEMENT

Amanda and Ryan love their Alma Mater UCO, two cute pups, and McDonalds, but not necessarily in that order. :)  This is their engagement session from last summer and might I say the weather was beautiful.  A little overcast, with some light popping out here and there, the perfect mix and I soaked it all right up.  And Amanda and Ryan, oh my goodness they are so perfect for each other.  You can see the adoration Ryan has for Amanda in every little movement, so tender, sweet, and fun-loving.  They laugh together, love each other whole-heartedly, and live life to the fullest.  What more can I ask to photograph?

We met up at the UCO campus to start off, and this is one of my favorites from the whole session!

He smiled at me!!!  Or at the french fry, but whatev I’ll take it.;)

Adore the love above and the coolness below.

We finished the session around Ryan’s grandparent’s home, and there was no shortage of fabulous locations.

That one on the right, so major!  Ryan looks so dapper and Amanda is gorgeous as ever!

Amanda + Ryan:  Thank you for the honor of capturing your love.  You two worked this session fabulously!

Bridal and wedding images to follow, so stay tuned!

Kelly

FAQ | WHAT TO WEAR

I am not sure if I can describe how serious my internet browsing addiction is.  I just love to look around, check out what’s new and take part in a little virtual window shopping.  Houses, cars, clothes, new equipment, accessories, decor ideas…. and the list goes on.  So to make my pesky little habit feel a bit more productive, I decided to throw together a clothing suggestion post.  This is one of the top client FAQs and in an effort to explain my ideas in more detail, I thought I would give you all a visual.  I want my clients to truly portray their style in their photographs, so I say most importantly dress comfortably.  Besides that, I love textures, layers, accessories and especially color – any and all color.  And I usually suggest to just keep it in the same color scheme, but never feel like you all have to match exactly.

Here is an example of a casual subdued look.  I love the hints of teal and shimmery gold mixed with texture from the ruffled dress, lacy scarf and canvas heels.  This would be perfect for Spring family photos.  In fact, as I designed it I took our family into consideration and could really see all four of us in these outfits.

I love this set because of how bright and bold the colors are, yet they still work really well together.  What I did here, and what I usually do for our own family sessions, is chose one focus item and worked from that.  This is obviously the girl’s dress.  For us, I am able to usually pick something from my or my daughter’s wardrobe, since we wear the most colorful clothes, and then work from there finding neutrals or others complimentary colors.  I especially love the earrings here.  It’s a subtle addition to the collection, but adds one more item that can wrap the color scheme together.

This is a fabulous little maternity set.  What I encourage you to do is not be afraid of bold prints or colors when you’re with child.  The top on the right is a perfect example of this, and actually now that I think about it a textury peach or gray scarf would be the perfect addition to this outfit.  This is also a great example of how you can change your look up without making your man do so as well, which we all know in the end makes for a happier hubby.  I want those flats!!

Next up I have an engagement session suggestion with an easy no change situation for the male again.  The dress I see as much more elegant and could work really well if he had the shirt buttoned.  Then to dress it down he could unbutton it with a favorite tee underneath while she wears an adorable pleated skirt along with a plain ‘ol navy tee and flats or heels.  And by the way, aren’t both sets of heels totally major!  (ode to Rachel Zoe right there)

This is just another set I worked up for an engagement session.  On the left I love the hint of peach from the headband and heels.  And I totally want to do a shoot of Bryan and I in the outfits on the right.  That dress and those heels… to die for!

And senior girls…. I cannot forget you fabulous human beings.  I don’t think you need fashion advice at all, but I just put this little collection together… well, because it was pure fun and entertainment.  I adore everything about all three outfits.  Textures, colors, accessories… they’re all so fun!!I do want to note that I don’t ever want my clients to feel like they have to go out and buy new outfits for their whole family.  Like I said before, it’s best to find one major piece that you love and work from there, which usually means you will have a few staple pieces already purchased.

So I’m all ears… Did you like this?  Do these visuals help?  Am I fooling myself by thinking this was a way to make my online habits seem productive? :)  All I know is that it was probably way too much fun for me, but I really do hope it at least helps one client.  You all have a wonderful weekend and thank you for stopping by the blog!

~abi~ - well done, i love every outfit! :) i am super-excited for our upcoming shoots, girl!

MACIE + TJ | OKLAHOMA CITY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Well hello there friends.  Long time, no blog right?  I fully apologize for the lack of blogging this past season year.  I royally stink for that, and I’m just going to admit it.  However, in 2011 I want to try much harder at this.  I have a long list of personal and business goals for this year.  I’ll spare you the list, but I will say I have some very reasonable attainable goals, as well as some “reach for the sky” kind of ideas.  I am so excited about my journey this year and cannot wait to share it with you guys.  Along the way I will continue to post work from 2010 as well.  I shot some amazing weddings and sessions and feel so blessed to have met such wonderful clients and work with amazing vendors.  2010 was honestly a whirlwind, but a fully blessed year as well.  And I have a feeling 2011 is going to be even better.

So for now, here is a fabulous Day After (more like years later:)session I shot back in October 2010.  Considering they’ve modeled before, Macie and TJ are so easy to work with and insanely gorgeous too.  The day was warm and beautiful and could not have been more perfect.  Macie and I truly got to see our vision come to life and we had so much fun while doing it.  Here are my favorites:

Macie is so incredibly talented.  Not only did she design and make her own wedding dress, she also created this fabulous veil/head piece.  Her styling is impeccable!

Bouquet is by the ever so fabulous Rebecca’s Silver Rose.  I was so so in love with it!

Ahhhh, that one on the right is just to die for!

Macie, you are stunning!

Maybe my all time favorite image from this session.  But then again, how can I possibly pick a favorite!?

Okay, no!  This is my favorite!  Wowie wow wow!!

Macie + TJ, where do I begin?  You two were amazing to photograph and work with and helped me produce one of my favorite shoots of all time!  You are both such beautiful people, inside and out, and I’m blessed to know you.  Macie, your words of encouragement, kindness and support will not soon be forgotten.  Much much love to the two of you!
